Session 1  

What is fascia? What is a myofascial chain?

Outline: knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to fascia is important to understanding the role of fascia and its function as a myofascial chain.

Learning objectives:

  • To learn the anatomy of the fascia, and the concept of myofascia.
  • To learn the difference between fascial v/s myofascial pain
  • To learn the pathology and differential diagnosis of myofascial pain, Causes of myofascial pain and hypothesis about myofascial pain
Session 2  

Upper extremity myofascial chains

Outline: This section will focus on the evidence that backs up the existence of myofascial chains. 4 myofascial chains of the upper extremity will be introduced and the related musculoskeletal impairments related to their dysfunctions.

Learning objectives:

  • To introduce evidence based Myofascial chains
  • To distinguish between the 4 upper extremity myofascial chains, their function and dysfucntions
  • Learn Co-relation of chronic non-specific neck pain, Chronic tension type headache and Cervicobrachial pain and more..
  • Contribution of myofascial pain syndrome to Oncologic diseases, Osteoarthritis, Neurological diseases, Inflammatory diseases
Session 3 

Treatment strategies of UE myofascial chains

Outline: In this session we will put together the concepts learnt in the first two sessions, and construct treatment approaches and strategies based on dysfunctions. This section will present with some video demonstrations on all 4 chains.

Learning objectives:

  • To be knowledgeable about Diagnoses : case studies and research articles
  • To design treatment techniques for all 4 upper extremity chains
  • Discuss clinical implications of forward head posture and Use of varied manual therapies for myofascial pain.
