Programme

Session 1

Thoracic imaging

We will briefly review assessment of image quality, with tips to acquire good thoracic radiographic images. We will also discuss artifacts which may occur in thoracic radiographs and we will review normal thoracic anatomy and normal variations which may be confusing.
We will also address everyone’s favorite subject, lung patterns and we will also discuss thoracic masses, cardiac disease and the mediastinum. The lecture will be case based and will aim to provide delegates with a structured approach to reviewing thoracic radiographs, with guidance on the most likely differential diagnosis and further testing.

Session 2

Abdominal Imaging

As in the thoracic imaging lecture we will discuss ways to obtain optimal abdominal radiographs; we will also discuss which radiographs are needed depending on the presenting signs of the patient. We will review normal abdominal anatomy, with discussion of any variations which may be misleading. We will also discuss indications abdominal radiography.
We will follow a case based approach to a systematic review of the abdomen, to give delegates a structured approach to review of the abdomen, with guidance on common pathology such as abdominal masses, gastrointestinal tract obstruction and urinary tract disease.

Session 3

Musculoskeletal imaging

Good quality radiographs are essential to interpretation and this is most definitely true in the musculoskeletal system and we will briefly discuss how to obtain good quality musculoskeletal radiographs and assessment of image quality. We will use a case based approach to evaluate common musculoskeletal conditions, with a discussion of techniques for accurate radiograph review and assessment, to aid delegates in decision making in musculoskeletal cases.

  • Understanding normal, variations of normal and artefacts
  • Case based review of common pathology
