Session 1

Traumatic Eye Injuries and Infections

This session will cover the treatment of traumatic and infectious conditions including traumatic proptosis, corneal and intraocular foreign bodies, orbital abscessation and infected corneal ulcers.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to remove, when to refer: treatment options for corneal and intraocular foreign bodies
  • How to select the right antibiotics for infected corneal ulcers in dogs vs cats
  • How to stop a corneal melt – which anti-collagenases work and which don’t
Session 2

The Red and Cloudy Eye

Session 2 focuses on the clinical presentations of the acutely painful red eye, and of the sudden onset cloudy eye. We will discuss the diagnosis and latest treatment options for conditions including corneal ulceration, anterior uveitis, glaucoma and lens luxation.

What you’ll learn:

  • When and when not to grid a corneal ulcer
  • How to treat corneal ulcers in brachycephalics
  • Do ‘corneal repair gels’ really work?
  • How to work-up the acutely cloudy eye
  • Latest treatment options for glaucoma
Session 3

Blindness – Ocular and Systemic Causes

The final session discusses the work-up and differential diagnosis of blindness in dogs and cats, covering ophthalmic, central and systemic causes. This session will be primarily case-based.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to distinguish ocular from central causes blindness
  • How to perform a neuro-ophthalmological examination and what it tells us
  • How to work-up and identify systemic causes of blindness
