Session 1

Husbandry, Nutrition, Clinical Examination and Grooming Procedures

It all starts with husbandry. Knowing how birds should be kept and common pitfalls are essential for taking a complete history. Then handling them safely and performing a succinct clinical assessment is required. Many birds present for routine treatments and ways to avoid these turning into disasters will be discussed.

Session 2

Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Diagnostics of Birds

What do you need to do to that sick bird? This session covers the basic techniques and skills used to stabilise avian species and then obtain a diagnosis. Anaesthesia is often needed and becoming more confident in avian anaesthesia is essential; this session will provide plenty of tips to made avian anaesthesia less stressful.

Session 3

Medicine and Surgery of Avian Species

Knowing the likely causes for presenting clinical signs is important. There may not be a budget for diagnostics so calculated logical treatment plans have to be formulated. This session goes through what treatments are advised and what diagnostics are helpful for a variety of common conditions. Some cases are obviously surgical and these are also highlighted.
