Hip and Stifle Surgery Question 1 - Test Your Knowledge!
Question
Can you describe the changes in the radiographs below?
What is your diagnosis?
What are the treatment options?
Answer
Changes:-
Displacement of the proximal femoral metaphysis. Resorption and sclerosis of the femoral neck.
Diagnosis:-
Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
Management:-
These are not traumatic fractures and are believed to be a physeal dysplasia, so attempts at reducing them and stabilising them are not successful.
Salvage surgery, either femoral head and neck ostectomy or total hip replacement, is required.
