Question

What are the indications for the administration of fresh frozen plasma?

Answer

Fresh frozen plasma is prepared by the separating whole blood and plasma, and freezing the plasma component within 8 hours of collection.

It contains all the coagulation factors, including Von Willebrand’s factor and small amounts of albumin.

It is used in the treatment of coagulopathies, including rodenticide toxicity, hemophilia and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
